Sanders believes a two state solution is needed in Israel.
HOST: Senator another questioner asks “would the security of the Jewish state of Israel be a priority for President Sanders?”
BERNIE SANDERS: Absolutely.
HOST: And be specific on how you would provide for that.
SANDERS: Sure. I don’t have to tell anybody in this room that for 60 years there has been an incredible depressing tragedy within the Middle East. I have visited Israel a number of times. I lived on a kibbutz for a little while when I was a young man. I have family who live in Israel right now. So it goes without saying that Israel must be guaranteed the right to live out their lives with security, without having to worry about terrorist attacks. That goes without saying. That is a given. It also in my view is important that...and again I’m not going to tell you that I have some magical solution to a tragedy which has gone on for decades nobody has yet solved. If I told you that I have a magical solution correctly you would not believe me. This is an incredible complicated problem and there is blame that can be assigned all over the place. But number one of course the security of Israel will be very very important for me. The right of the people there to live with security and not be threatened by terrorist attacks. I happen to also believe that at the end of the day what we are going to need in that part of the world is a two state solution. I happen to believe that the Palestinians are entitled to a state of their own and to gain economic support from countries around the world including the United States.
