Improbable 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate

Governor of Oklahoma

Mary Fallin
Born: December 9th, 1954  (age 61)
After serving two terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District (2007-2011), the former American Legislative Exchange Council’s “1993 Legislator of the Year” announced in 2010 that her “service to the state of Oklahoma can best be served in Oklahoma ... leading us through the challenging times not only for our nation but also for our state.”

Gov. Fallin, who holds the enviable record of having never lost an election for public office, dutifully won the general election by defeating Democratic candidate, Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, by a 20-point margin.

Since then, Gov. Fallin has established a strong pro-business, socially conservative streak. In July 2011, the mother of two attracted national attention when she urged Oklahomans “of all faiths to join me this Sunday in offering their prayers for rain,” in light of the sustained and destructive drought the state had been facing.
