Gov. Fallin, who holds the enviable record of having never lost an election for public office, dutifully won the general election by defeating Democratic candidate, Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, by a 20-point margin.
Since then, Gov. Fallin has established a strong pro-business, socially conservative streak. In July 2011, the mother of two attracted national attention when she urged Oklahomans “of all faiths to join me this Sunday in offering their prayers for rain,” in light of the sustained and destructive drought the state had been facing.
