Carson supports a Balanced Budget amendment to the Constitution. He also bemoans out of control federal spending and calls for a reduction in the size of government.
BEN CARSON: “You know, we have people in leadership positions in our country who consider it a victory when the debt doesn't go up as fast this quarter as it did last quarter. I mean, that's their measuring stick. I mean, how ridiculous in that? We have to change that. We need to have a Balanced Budget amendment.

No spending outside of that. And we need to shrink the size of government, because you know, in 2010, if you took the salary of everybody who made $69,000 and more, it comes out to $5.1 trillion. Small money. What was the federal budget back then? $3.5 trillion. 60% of everything that middle class group of people and above made, just to run the federal government. Now think back to the Boston Tea Party. The taxation rate was less than 5% - what would they be doing today? I mean, they would be going bananas looking at this!”
